FARM & PHIN
We visited Elon Farm in the South Central Highland province of Lâm Đồng and an hour from the capital in the region Da Lat. A Prime Coffee Region due the Altitude, Topical Climate and mineral rich soil present in the valleys.
Their Farm House is a custom designed house acting as a home for the family of 3, a hub for their coffee business and a guest-house for vistors to their homestay or helpers on their farm. It is a beautiful space that brings the outside in through open walls, rich natural materials and high ceilings. Being a Coffee Plantation one of the highlights is the marble Coffee Bar that they use to make their morning coffee, host workshops or do tastings of their coffee with business partners.
PHIN RITUAL
The Homestay started with Jenny , one of the cofounders of Elon Farm introducing Robusta, the types of beans the family produces and traditional Vietnamese Phin Filter Process that we will be using for the tasting session. The Phin brews a single cup of bold concentrated coffee. It does this by slow dipping the coffee through a perforated plate leading to longer brew times compared to other methods.
